It’s Not the Ships . . . My Early Years

lifewriters.ca managed this project from concept to publication. It is the first of a three-volume set (Outward Bound and People Will Say We’re in Love). Our services included:
- conducting 15 hours of audio-recorded interviews
- transcribing and editing a lengthy written account of the client’s wartime service
- transcribing interviews and additional written material
- reading the client’s wartime correspondence and selecting excerpts for publication
- extensive researching of family archives and fact checking
- crafting the transcripts, letters, and other material into an engaging first-person narrative. Ghostwriting
- researching and identifying the images to be included from a vast collection. (The client was blind.)
- taking additional photographs and author photo
- obtaining permissions from the Royal Navy Submarine Museum and arranging for licensing fees for use of copyrighted material
- scanning and retouching photos and memorabilia
- designing the book and cover. Writing the back cover promotional copy
- contracting and liaising with a printer on behalf of the client
- designing a promotional poster
