- researching other published works on wartime submarine service

- crafting the existing narratives and archival material into an engaging narrative told in the first person.
- choosing images and memorabilia and writing captions
- copyediting, extensive fact-checking, and proofreading
- obtaining permissions and licences to use copyrighted material
- contacting military historians to review the manuscript and offer suggestions
- designing the book and covers
- hosting a book launch at the Royal BC Museum, Victoria
- developing promotional posters, a book mark, and media releases
- creating an ecommerce website to sell the book online
